Nintendo today announced it will be able to increase worldwide shipments of GameCube
by 500,000 for business year ending March 2002. The number equates
to a full 13% increase over Nintendo's initial manufacturing forecasts
and brings the new forecast to 4,500,000. Curiously however,
Nintendo made not mention of any intention to revise earnings
estimates for fiscal 2001.

The announcement comes on the heels of a tremendously successful
North American launch. According to Nintendo, most of the added
units will be earmarked for North America where Nintendo had already
increased 2001 allocations to 1.3 million.

When Nintendo initially
estimated worldwide figures in late
July, gaming analyst Lisa
Spicer stated, "They can easily sell a lot more… but it's
probably production capacity that led to that forecast." It's
very likely that even with increased manufacturing capacity, demand
will continue to outstrip supply well into 2002.
