ATI today announced the benchmark shipment of 12 million Flipper chips for Nintendo GameCube. The ATI-designed and NEC-manufactured Flipper is GameCube's core graphics processor. Nintendo's best-selling game console enabling software developers to create a wide variety of best-selling game titles for Nintendo GameCube. 12 Millionth ATI Graphics Processor 'Flipper' Chip Ships For NINTENDO GAMECUBE

MARKHAM, Ontario - ATI Technologies today announced that the 12 millionth ATI graphics processor 'Flipper' chip has been shipped for the Nintendo GameCube video game console. Manufactured by NEC Corporation, the ATI-designed 'Flipper' chip is the central graphics core of Nintendo's best-selling game console enabling software developers to create a wide variety of best-selling game titles for Nintendo GameCube.

"ATI's partnership and technological expertise with ATI's 'Flipper' chip for Nintendo GameCube has enabled game developers to concentrate on entertaining storylines coupled with a wide array of exciting graphic elements to enhance the game experience," said Genyo Takeda, Senior Managing Director of Integrated Research and Development, Nintendo Co., Ltd. "Best selling Nintendo GameCube titles such as Super Mario Sunshine and Super Smash Bros. Melee, and the eagerly anticipated Metroid Prime and The Legend of Zelda, all gain superior entertainment value based on ATI's visual performance expertise in their 'Flipper' chip."

Nintendo GameCube features a revolutionary graphics processor, called the 'Flipper' chip, from ATI. The highly integrated processor includes both a 2D and 3D graphics engine, a DSP (digital signal processor) for audio processing, all system I/O (input/output) functions including CPU (central processing unit), system memory, controllers, optical disk, flash card, modem and video interfaces, and an on-chip high bandwidth frame buffer.
