A leader in unbiased product and services advice, Consumer Reports
is the source of product reviews for over four million subscribers.
In the February issue of Consumer Reports, the magazine too a brief
look at next generation consoles including the GameCube.

The
three-quarter page buyer's guide is far from any in-depth analysis
Consumer's readers are used to. In many respects, this is a good
thing. If Consumer Reports is to feature a comprehensive system
review, it would be much more fair to reserve evaluation until the
two new consoles have been on the market for at least a year.

"If you have video-game buffs at home, you’ll face a big
decision this holiday season: Should you replace your video-game
console with one of the newer enhanced systems? Which is best:
Nintendo’s GameCube, Sony’s PlayStation 2, or Microsoft’s
Xbox?" Consumer Reports' list of buyer suggestions was drafted
to help consumers make a more educated decision in their console
purchases.

The article makes basic recommendations such as, "Make sure the
system you’re considering offers the games you like. For example,
the Mario family of games (the newest is Luigi’s Mansion) is
available only for Nintendo systems such as GameCube, $200, not for
Microsoft’s Xbox, $300, or Sony’s PlayStation 2, $300."
