“Sometimes the term
‘industry legend’ is overused... But in the case of Peter Main,
it is perfectly appropriate. Many common industry practices were
literally invented by Peter over the last 15 years, and we would not
have achieved our phenomenal success without him.” - Minoru
Arakawa, NOA President

Peter Main, Nintendo of America's long time Executive Vice President
of Sales & Marketing, will soon be stepping down from his
position at NOA. Main's retirement, effective January 31, 2002, will
mark the end of 15 incredible years with the company. Main joined
Nintendo as VP of Marketing in April of 1987. In his time with
Nintendo, Main helped
choreograph the US launch of the Nintendo Entertainment
System and Game Boy, saw the company through FTC investigations and
patent infringement suits, pioneered incredibly successful marketing
efforts, and brought North American success to Nintendo Co. Ltd. Of
Main's many honors, he was named Marketer of the Year by Adweek
Magazine and Corporate Marketer of the Year by the Delaney Report.
His retirement from Nintendo will be a great loss for the company.
Current President of Nintendo of Canada, Peter MacDougall, will
assume Main's position. MacDougall has been with Nintendo of Canada
for 12 years and formerly held positions at Gillette and Seagrams.
The following is the official press release from Nintendo of
America.

Having read extensively of Peter Main's contributions to Nintendo
and the pleasure to discuss the industry with him at this year's
Electronic Entertainment Expo, I can say with confidence he's one of
the kindest, most honest, and shrewd Nintendo executives ever. Peter
Main will surely be missed.
