GameCubicle's journey to E3 2001 began the morning of May 16th. The day commenced for this GameCubicle member at 9:30 in the morning with the sound of my alarm clock. After showering and tuning to TechTV for live feeds from the conferences, I completed a careful packing process. Checked off one digital camera, one digital video camera, one transcription tape recorder, one laptop, one copy of Game Over for the flight, plane tickets for staff, E3 badges, and the rest was dispensable.

As we rode in our limo to JFK, a few fears and possible threats to our trip emerged. Would traffic leading to the Whitestone Bridge subside allowing for us to make the plane departure time? Would GameCubicle staffers be able to contain themselves and not exclaim, "Sony will Bomb" in flight?

At the time this editorial is being written, I'm sitting in a comfortable seat on a Delta aircraft somewhere over the middle of continental United States trying to keep myself busy. Between the cloud cover that is just spectacular, I'm looking out over populated cities where tens of thousands of individuals are surely viewing the Los Angeles event in some manner.

Forty thousand feet in the air, the entire GameCubicle staff sits quietly - insane with anticipation. I can't stop imagining how the GameCube controller will feel like in my hands, what my first GameCube experience will be like, and the spectacle of Nintendo's booth.

The first in our itinerary for tomorrow, May 17th, is the 9:00 keynote by Peter Main, Rober Bach, and Kazuo Harai from Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony respectively. The moment the function lets out, it's off to Nintendo's booth for all. A five-minute interval has been reserved for staff members who need time to weep at the site of GameCube. At Nintendo's booth we'll be photographing the system, accessories, game kiosks, executive cameos, and more. I for one plan on spending hours with first and second party titles and am specifically looking forward to Luigi's Mansion, Rogue Squadron 2, and Blue Storm. Later in the afternoon the staff will take up Microsoft's booth to tool around with Halo and photograph the XBOX and scenery. We will also make time to tour a few third party booths.

See you at the show...
