PETER MACDOUGALL: A year ago when we presented the GameCube program, we promised you that it would be positioned against all players. And that we would create great games for everyone. Well since then some of you have asked us to do perhaps a little more for the older, more mature gamer. Indeed would we ever really reach out to that older gamer? And not just with third party offerings but with exclusive games. With big, Nintendo-sized games? Well let me answer that question with this video, which is a collaboration between Nintendo and our partners at Retro Studios.

METROID PRIME:

On a distant planet, in the far reaches of space... lies a powerful, deadly secret. This holiday, step into the gravity suit, behind the visor, for an experience that's out of this world. Metroid Prime... she's back. [applause]

PETER MACDOUGALL: Yes, Metroid Prime certainly looks spectacular. Wait until you play it tomorrow on the show floor. In fact some of you have already told me that you believe its the leading candidate for game of the show so we'll be eager to get your feedback. At the same time, we clearly recognize that it will take more than one game to convince you that we're really committed to this older demographic. So take a look at these next two. One from our partners at Silicon Knights and the other from our old friends at Capcom.

RESIDENT EVIL:

In the quiet town of Raccoon City, during summer of 1998, the truest nightmare began. A mansion of terror filled with booby traps, horrific mutant beasts, and flesh eating zombies around every corner. S.T.A.R.S. Alpha Team members battle the undead in search of the missing Bravo Team. But what did happen to the Bravo Team sent to investigate the mysterious happenings? They disappeared. Soon, you'll discover the truth. Lifelike visuals and gameplay guaranteed to evoke fear. Coming soon, Resident Evil 0 and available now, Resident Evil. Defeat your destiny and live. Who will make it out alive?

ETERNAL DARKNESS:

What is real? Is it the light? The emptiness? The shadows? Your fear? This June, the terror will consume you, your eyes will deceive you, and nothing will be what it seems. A story, centuries in the making. A thriller that borders the line between reality and illusion. Eternal Darkness. [applause]
